Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry

Nitrous oxide gas, also known as “laughing gas”, is used to help patients relax during dental procedures. The level of sedation will depend on each individual’s needs, but a patient will not lose consciousness at any time. After the nasal mask is put on and nitrous oxide and oxygen begin flowing through it, it takes about thirty seconds to four minutes for the sedation to kick in. When the procedure is over, you’ll be given pure oxygen and the effects of the sedation will wear off within minutes, allowing you to return to your usual routine.
